The new Erebus Twenty-Four (24) might be one of the most innovative affordable watches released in years. In this review, I take a deep look at the mechanical field watch that automatically switches its dial every 12 hours to display true 24-hour time.

Check out the Fratello Article about the Gruen Airflight: https://www.fratellowatches.com/the-gruen-airflight-a-watch-with-a-smart-complication-for-under-1000usd/

Yes—you read that correctly. This fully mechanical automatic watch changes all of its hour markers at noon and midnight to display military time in a clean, easy-to-read format. It's a rare complication originally seen on the historic Gruen AirFlight, and seeing it return in a modern watch priced around $499 is honestly pretty incredible.

Powered by the Miyota 9039 automatic movement with a custom module, the Erebus 24 combines an unusual mechanical complication with the practical design of a classic field watch.

In this video I cover:

• How the 24-hour dial-switching complication works
• The history behind the Gruen AirFlight that inspired it
• Build quality, specs, and real-world wearability
• The Miyota 9039 movement and custom module
• Dial options, sizes (38mm & 40mm), and design details
• Lume performance and field watch practicality
• Issues I noticed during testing (prototype review)
• Whether this is one of the best microbrand watches under $600

If you enjoy affordable watch collecting, microbrand watches, and unique mechanical complications, this is definitely a watch worth checking out.

⌚ Watch Specs (Highlights)
• Miyota 9039 Automatic Movement
• Custom 24-Hour Dial Switching Module
• 38mm & 40mm Case Options
• Sapphire Crystal with Anti-Reflective Coating
• Screw-Down Crown
• Swiss BGW9 Super-LumiNova
• Multiple Dial Colors & Textures
• Pre-order Price: $499
This Mechanical Watch Changes All Its Numbers Twice a Day (Seriously)

These Italian microbrand watches blend classic tool watch specs with refined, dress-watch elegance.

🔹 Nereide Grand Tour GMT
Powered by the Miyota 9075 true GMT movement, this traveler’s GMT features:
100m water resistance
Rose gold ion-plated bezel
Polished tungsten bezel insert
Sunburst anthracite dial
Slim 12mm case
A sophisticated alternative to traditional sports GMTs, with styling reminiscent of the Rolex GMT-Master II “Root Beer.”

🔹 Nereide Aureo 39
An ultra-slim 200m dive watch (just 10.5mm thick) featuring:
Screw-down crown
120-click unidirectional bezel
Tungsten bezel insert
Stunning 24 karat gold ripple dial
Strong BGW9 lume

At just over $1,000, there are trade-offs (push-pin bracelets, limited micro-adjustment), but the finishing, materials, and Italian design philosophy make these some of the most elegant tool watches in the microbrand space.

If you’re into Italian watches, GMT watches, dive watches, luxury microbrands, and affordable luxury timepieces, this is one to watch.

Is the $200 G-Shock GW-BX5600 actually the best watch ever made?

In this video, I make a reasoned case that the MIP G-Shock isn’t just a great value — it might outperform every category of watch, including a $400,000 Royal Oak, luxury tool watches, smartwatches, and even feature-packed quartz competitors.

First, we define what a watch actually is. Once you do that, the comparison becomes clearer — and more uncomfortable for luxury brands.

The Watch in Question
The Casio G-Shock GW-BX5600 features:
MIP (Memory-In-Pixel) display for superior legibility
Bluetooth + Multiband 6 atomic timekeeping
Tough Solar charging
Perpetual calendar
World time
5 alarms
Stopwatch & countdown timer
200m water resistance

At around $200, it delivers nearly every classic watch complication — plus accuracy that mechanical watches simply cannot match.

I compare this G-Shock to 4 amazing challengers and explain why the G-Shock still comes on top
1. AP Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillion/Column Wheel Chronograph
2. Garmin Instinct 3
3. Seiko Astron SSH175
4. Casio Royale AE-1200wh

0:00 The G-Shock Square "MIP"
1:30 vs. a $400,000 AP
6:25 The Criteria
9:15 vs. Garmin Instinct 3
12:17 vs. Seiko Astron SSH175
14:13 vs. Casio Royale

Our Watch Collections Need Some Work...
In this video, I take a close look at the Englemaan Enterprise, a Chinese-made automatic watch that delivers an unusual level of manufacturing and feature set for its $280 price point.

Get the watch: https://englemaan.com
Get a Hoodie: https://justthewatch.com

This is a 40mm tool watch clearly inspired by the Sinn 104, but the real story here isn’t the design—it’s what’s happening under the hood. The Enterprise includes features that are rarely seen at this price, including a ball-bearing bezel assembly, a clutched crown, and a smooth on-the-fly adjustable clasp.

You also get a ceramic bezel insert, sapphire crystal with AR coating, an anti-magnetic case, and an anti-scratch coating on both the case and bracelet. Powering the watch is the proven Seiko NH36 automatic movement, known for its reliability and easy serviceability.

In this review, I’ll cover:

Build quality and finishing

Bezel and crown execution

Bracelet and clasp design

Movement choice and performance

How it compares to other watches in the sub-$300 category

Whether this level of manufacturing actually matters in real-world use
I've never seen this in a watch this cheap...
